BACOLOD CITY – Six men were arrested by the police for playing “cara y cruz” at Village 8, while an alleged theft took place in a Public Utility Jeepney (PUJ), while in a mall here a case of shoplifting was reported.

Six suspects were rounded up by intel operatives of Police Station 2 after being caught playing cara y cruz. The six — Ronnie Lautirio, Jonathan Cris Salvedio, Ricadito Espillo, Angelito Diola, Ian Aquilisca, and John Mark Abellanosa — were caught in the sub-village of Narra Baybay, Village 8.

Around P250 in cash — suspected to be bet collection in different denominations — was recovered in the incident.

Cara y cruz or “heads or tails” in English is usually played along the streets as a past time, using coins.

The game involves money bets, thus qualifying the game as gambling, which is a violation under the illegal gambling law.

Meanwhile in the local mall here, a shoplifting incident was reported at the Ladies and Kids Section of an apparel store. The items shoplifted by suspect Nena Solomon were worth around P1500.

The crime was discovered when Solomon was about to get out of the H&M store, as the security alarm picked up the unpaid items in the suspect’s possession. The security guard of the establishment checked Solomon’s bag and recovered the apparently shoplifted items there.

The security guard escorted Solomon to Police Station 1.

Along the streets of Lacson, meanwhile, a snatching took place at one at 1 a.m.

Monica Baulita together with her live-in partner walked in front of Jollibee Lacson when an unidentified person suddenly snatched her bag containing phone worth P10,000 and P4,000 cash.

The suspect ran toward the parked tricycle and sped off.

A similar incident happened this time inside a PUJ.

According to Eleonor Aquino, she was victimized by the bubble gum gang as a group of five still unidentified persons placed a piece of gum on her hair.

One of the men then assisted her to ostensibly remove the gum, distracting her while the others rummaged through her bag and got her phone.

After the incident, one of the suspects even told Ticar “Ang imo cellphone gin snatch” or “Your phone has been snatched”.

Upon verification, her cellular phone worth P12,000 had indeed been taken by the suspects.
