BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The sister of a BPO worker who was found dead in the neighboring city of Talisay over the weekend has appealed to netizens to spare her younger sibling from vile acusations as Camp Montelibano said the Talisay Police will coordinate with police here as they start to deepen their probe into Carl Kimberlyn Degabi’s death.
“… As a family, we are heartbroken and deeply hurt, not just by her death but also by the victim-blaming and accusations being thrown at her. These claims, which lack any formal complaint, are causing unnecessary pain,” part of the written statement of Kimberlyn’s elder sister said after an online interview with DNX.
The elder sister, who asked not to be named, told DNX her sister, 31, is survived by three children and was supposed to go home on the night before she was found dead.
Facebook went abuzz after police reported finding the body on the roadside near a sugarcane plantation in Matab-ang, a village close to 10 kilometers away from Eroreco Subdivision here where the victim lived.
“She is gone now, and I can’t begin to imagine the fear and terror she endured. Her death has been turned into a public spectacle, and it’s devastating to see people throwing baseless accusations and hurtful words at her. She’s no longer here to defend herself. Please, think about that,” the statement of her sister added.
Captain Judesses Catalogo, spokesman of the main Provincial Police Office, told DNX the post mortem findings on Kimberlyn’s body have yet to be released and added that the Talisay City Police Office might coordinate with the main police station here in the course of its probe.
Bacolod Police chief, Colonel Joeresty Coronica, told DNX the Talisay Police is the lead unit in the probe as the territorial station where the victim’s body was found.
He added it can coordinate with any police station in Bacolod or special units since the victim is from here.
So far, as the swab test and autopsy results by the provincial forensic unit have yet to be released, Catalogo said what they know so far is that the woman is aged 31, a former agent of a call center here, and was found stripped of her pants and underwear.
