BACOLOD CITY – The Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) has given the city government here an additional fund of P5 million for the construction of the drug rehabilitation center located in Alijis village.
In 2018, the DDB turned over a check worth P10 million for the construction of the rehabilitation facility worth P35 million. The remaining amount was shouldered by the city government of Bacolod.
The facility will temporarily house drug offenders who seek rehabilitation and reformation to become self-sufficient and law-abiding members of society.
Executive Assistant Samuel Montoyo, focal person of the anti-drug abuse campaign said the construction of the drug rehabilitation center is almost 75 percent done and is set to be finished by the first quarter of next year.
Montoyo added the rehabilitation center will accommodate around 50 people.
The facility includes an administrative building, a mess hall and a male and female dormitory.
Bacolod City Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia said the facility will prioritize Bacolod residents.
He thanked DDB officials for giving additional funds for its construction.
“Bacolod is trying its best to comply with the vision of the administration of creating a drug-free community,” the mayor said.
DDB Chief Cashier Melanie Castillo reminded officials to keep the rehabilitation center operational throughout the years.
“Make it operational. Let’s spread drug-free community because it is the mandate of the DDB,” said Castillo.
