BACOLOD CITY – Area 7 – Bacolod City and Area 8 – NOPSSCEA grabbed gold medals in basketball tournaments in Palarong Panlalawigan 2019, 12 December.
Area 7 bagged championship in the Women’s division with a 26-point lead over Area 3; 68 – 42.
Champion coach Yhrlin Vingno said the competition becomes tougher and tougher each year, with teams entering the meet eager and more ready to compete.
Despite the challenges their team has faced, Vingno said he is proud for his players for executing what he asked them to do.
The finals Most Valuable Player for the women’s is Kaye Pesquera.
Area 8, meanwhile, won the thrilling championship match in the Men’s division versus Area 3, 77 – 60.
First year coach of the team, Yong Despi said he is proud of his team’s performance.
For him, this recent success is a joined effort of the parents, the school, and most importantly the players.
Area 8 is composed mostly of players from Bacolod TayTung High School with imports from other NOPSCEA schools.
Nellbert Minerva was named as the Most Valuable Player in the Men’s division.
Women’s division tournament manager Leo Ceralbo believes that these tournaments are platforms for talents to be discovered by national teams.
Men’s division tournament manager Christopher Lofranco added that a sport like basketball is also an effective way in making young people understand more about leadership and how to face defeat in a constructive way.
