BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Police in the northern Negros city of Cadiz have filed a charge for murder against a man, 48, suspected to have killed a girl, 16, and threw her body into a river.
City Police chief, Lietenant Colonel Gil John Despi, said Allan Tengco was subjected to inquest proceedings yesterday and remains detained at the main police station.
Despi said probers seized the suspected murder weapon, a kitchen knife that was still bloodied, from inside the suspect’s house near the bank of the river where the victim’s body was found floating Sunday, 11 December 2022.
Probers found out that the victim took a shortcut that led near the house of Tengco where, a witness said, she was waylaid by the suspect who stabbed her at least 11 times and stuffed her body inside a sack before throwing it into the river.
The victim, a Grade 11 student of a government school, had not returned to her home in Sisoy, a community in the village of Cabahug, and was declared missing by relative on 9 December 2022.
Despi said it has not been proven yet through a post mortem examination that the victim was raped after being killed.
