BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The official start of the Yuletide season amid the tiempo suerte in Sugarlandia saw two men killed, one killed by hacking, the other shot at close range.
Police in Calatrava, a town 91 kilometers north of here, reported the discovery of a man early in the morning yesterday, 1 December 2022, whose body was found by the village chief of Minapasok.
The body was identified to be that of Ely Marcellana, 37, from the nearby village of Hinab-ongan.
The initial probe showed Marcellana was driving a motorcycle with an unidentified companion who shot him at close range when they reached Minapasok.
Police released photos of the victim sprawled by the roadside with his left eyeball bulging out of the socket.
Two spent 9mm shells were found in the crime scene while the killer fled using the victim’s motorcycle.
Meanwhile, a farmer was found dead, possibly a victim of hacking.
Police in Himamaylan, a city 74 kilometers south of here, said Edwin Trestiza, 69, was found belly down on the ground with many hack wounds by a neighbor in the upland village of Buenavista.
He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead after arriving.
