BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Three armed highway thieves robbed a salesman on the open highway in broad daylight and looted at least P120,000 Tuesday, 12 July 2022.
All in a matter of seconds.
This is the latest reported incident in a series of open highway robberies that have occurred in the south over the past few months.
Camp Montelibano reported the masked robbers on a motorcycle came up around 3pm from behind a parked truck of JT Philippines International and two of them, both armed with guns, declared a holdup.
The third one went to the front and took the cash, representing collected money of the firm, from the salesman, Virgilio M. Gillera, 32, Bayawan City, Oriental Negros.
He was with his driver, Marvie C Magbanua, a resident of Cauayan town, who then called police.
The truck was reportedly along Bagroy, a community in the village of Delicioso in Ilog, a town 100 kilometers south of here.
Magbanua later identified at the town police station one of the unmasked robbers as Nilo Topez Jr y Jimenez alias Lolong, Junas after he was shown photos of possible robbers on the E-rouges gallery, a collection of photos of the police.
This is the latest incident to have taken place in the southern national highway. At least two other cases were previously reported in Cauayan town and Sipalay City.
