BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Three suspected Communist rebels were killed in a firefight today in the mountain city of Canlaon in Oriental Negros province, Army officials reported.
The Army’s 62nd said an estimated 10 guerrillas under the Central Negros Front 1 clashed with their community support team in the village of Budlasan after residents in the area reported the rebels were extorting from them.
The clash lasted about 10 minutes after which soldiers found the three bodies and seized rebel documents and handguns.
The Army reported no casualties on their side.
