BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Another government “asset” was shot here on the eve of Independence Day along a major road and near the downtown police station, a murder that could be linked to the gunning down of a police informant Monday, last week.
Station 1 chief Ramel Sarona told DNX Jestoni Sabare, 30, was shot in the head by the gunman as he was resting around 10pm at the corner of San Juan and Luzuriaga Streets, only several meters away from Station 1 and the old City Hall.
Sarona said witnesses told police probers the killer rode a motorcycle and headed downtown after shooting the victim.
Task Force Kasanag, an anti crime group here, confirmed that Sabare was their member.
“He can be considered an asset because we help the government in fighting crime,” former overseas worker and Task Force founder John Chiong told DNX.
Chiong said he is not certain, however, if Sabare was a civilian asset of either the military or police.
Sabare was killed just three days after the murder of Jose Allan Braza in nearby Village 35.
Police have confirmed Braza was an asset of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, an anti-organized crime arm of the National Police.
