BACOLOD CITY – The police blotter on the day policeman Eric Alcosaba was killed said “four unidentified male person” fired at the victim using “unidentified firearms” that resulted to his “instantaneous death” after which the killers fled using an unidentified vehicle.
The police said the killing happened at 3:50pm.

A video sent DNX by a netizen showed what was not included in the blotter.
The 19-second clip shot with a mobile phone showed a man on his back on Carlos Hilado Highway, the main road on which McDonald’s East is located.
The fastfood chain is located across Lopue’s East, a busy shopping area especially in the afternoons.
At the two second mark, a man who appeared to be wearing a reversed baseball cap and a ski mask, ran from the right of the frame to where Alcosaba was lying and shot the policeman on the head with

The video shows Alcosaba’s head jolting with the shot.
The killer then ran back to a parked van, what looked like a white Toyota Innova.
As the killer shot Alcosaba, another man wearing a ski mask and holding what appeared to be an assault rifle was shown getting out of the van. He opened the driver’s seat door of a white Toyota pickup parked in front of the fastfood store and seemed to have dropped something inside.
The Alcosaba slay showed a shift in the method of killers involved in drug-related killings.
Since 2016, police records showed those killed “resisted” arrest or fought back at lawmen.
It was only recently, when Lt. Col. Jovie Espenido was assigned as concurrent head of the Drug Enforcement Unit and operations chief, that suspected drug personalities were abducted or left dead someplace else.

One such case was that of Ontao Sacar, a Muslim businessman who was snatched in a crowded shopping mall and found dead the next day, 3 December 2019.
Several days later, on 15 December 2019, businessman Robert “Kaishek” Tan was ambushed in broad daylight inside a subdivision in Villamonte village.

Another victim, a man, was also found dead on 30 January 2020, on the eve of Espenido’s deadline for organized crime groups to talk to him.
Police have identified two possible angles for the murder. One is drug-related, the other a personal grudge.
