BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – A man fishing in a river in a northern town, a wife suspected to be having an affair in a mountain town, and a despondent man in a southern city – two met death, one escaped it on 7 November, less than a week after Halloween.
Around 6am on that day, Benjie Sugon Pulitod, 38, was fishing in a portion of Malogo River that runs across Pasil village, EB Magalona town when he was reportedly hit by lightning on his head.
More than an hour later, around 7:30am as the cool breeze blew in Don Salvador Benedicto town, the summer capital of the province, Nelly Lantaco Librando, 28, was shot allegedly by her husband, Jonel, 29 after they reportedly had a fight caused by Jonel’s suspicions that Nelly was having an affair with another man.
While the police blotter did not mention if there was an argument between the two, it reported “(a)s a result, they took the firearm and grappled with each other” in Mangga, a sub-village of Kumaliskis.
The suspect then allegedly shot the victim at the back of her neck “perforating through his (sic) lower chin.”
The victim was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Motelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here while the suspect is now under the custody of the Don Salvador Benedicto
As the Librandos fought in Don Salvador, over at the upland village of Tapi in the southern city of Kabankalan, around 7:30am 7 November, Keechee Mission arrived home to see his younger brother aged 38, hanging lifeless from a ceiling beam of their car wash.
Keeche took down the body of younger brother (whose name is being withheld by DNX), and laid it on a bed before informing his family and village officials about his discovery.
The Kabankalan police said in a blotter report that their investigation showed the dead was suffering from a nervous breakdown a week before the incident.
