The reported endorsement today by the Cusi wing of ruling party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan has sparked a row on media as the son of party founder Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel Jr. tore at officials of the Cusi faction in a Twitter post, calling them “strangers” and “usurpers.”
“With this latest action from Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi and his cohorts, they have manifested that they are total strangers to PDP LABAN. They don’t even know that PDP LABAN was established to oppose the Marcos dictatorship. Time for Comelec to dismiss the petition of these usurpers!” the former solon said on his social media account.
The party, under which sitting President Rodrigo Duterte ran and won under, is described as a” democratic socialist” party and has now been torn into two major factions.
The one under Pimentel is now seeking recognition before the Commission on Elections.
