Man shot in front of school drives wounded to police checkpoint

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Police here has confirmed an early evening shooting incident in front of a school in Villamonte village, with the victim managing to drive wounded to a checkpoint and reporting the incident himself before he was brought to the hospital.

Local spokesman Lt. Col. Ariel Pico identified the victim based on the initial spot report as Mark Anthony Gumban Cubos, of the sub-village of Kamoteng Kahoy in Village 4.

No other details about the victim were made available.

Pico added the victim said he was parking his car, a Toyota Vios, in front of Trinity Christian School when armed men shot at his car.

The victim, radio reports said, still managed to drive wounded to a checkpoint less than a kilometer away in front of Robinson’s East where he reported the incident.

He was brought to the hospital for treatment.
