BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Police in Escalante City are probing what seems to be a baffling case of a public murder on a national highway Sunday, 13 August 2023.
The National Police said John Mark Sotto, 34, a reefer trailer or refrigerated truck driver was shot by a man wearing a black shirt and a black mask, around 8:30pm in Beatingo, a sitio (small community) in the village of Old Poblacion.
The initial police probe showed Sotto was driving his truck from here with his truck helper and met up with a fellow driver at the place where he was shot.
dDNX has withheld tge names of the helper and driver who are witnesses to the slay.
The two natrated to probers a gray sedan without a registration plate parked behind the truck driven by Sotto and from which the killer, said to be 5’8″ in height got out and asked Sotto for water for his overheating car.
After the victim said he had none, the killer drew out a gun amd shot him several times.
A doctor declared Sotto dead by the time he reached the Vicente Gustilo District Hospital.
