BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The police probe on the fatal shooting of a young man in the rural village of Granada here has intertwined two cases – – one the alleged gang rape of a girl, 16, the other the murder of Nicus who was supposed to turn 21 late this month.
And, as the murder of Nicus drags on to its first week, the initial investigation showed Balagosa was pinpointed to the killer by two of his friends who gave him up while being beaten by the father of the alleged rape victim.
Captain Portia Nillosan, who heads Police Station 5 handling the probe, revealed to DNX a series of events that started Friday until Balagosa’s death early Sunday night.
Nillosan said Balagosa, the alleged rape victim, and the two suspected rapists were indeed together in the same party for the birthday of a common friend on the night of Frday, 31 May 2024.
She did not provide additional details about the event but did confirm the alleged sexual assault on the girl could have happened that night or in the early morning of Saturday.
Nillosan confirmed the girl and her father, now the suspected killer of Balagosa, had the alleged rape blottered with the station noontime of Saturday.
The girl named two young men as suspects who sexually assaulted her but Balagosa was not one of them based on the blotter, she also said.
The father then looked for the two suspects named by her daughter and reportedly beat them during which the two allegedly named Balagosa as one of the rapists.
The following day, Balagosa was shot by the girl’s father.
