Memories of Marton’s murder: three cigarette butts, one spent cartridge

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Three cigarette butts and a spent ammunition casing could hold hold the key to solving a nagging murder in the northern Negros city of San Carlos where Capitol consultant and businessman Marton Cui was shot Monday night.

Days after the early evening murder that led to the death of Cui in a hospital, members of a special probe team found the first few pieces of evidence, the provincial police information officer told DNX.

Cui was shot as he was about to board his car, a Land Rover, parked in front of Emerald Building along FC Ledesma Street, a busy street.

Two days ago, Lt. Abegail Donasco said closed circuit camera footage also showed two vans, a white Toyota and a silver Starex, parking near the building. (READ also: Gov saddened by death of Marton Cui, hopes slay can be solved as police continues to probe killing of Capitol consultant)

Donasco said the items have been sent to the PNP Crime Laboratory for analysis.

She added it cannot be confirmed yet if the bullet was for a rifle caliber or a handgun amid initial suapicions that Cui could have been shot at long range with a sniper rifle.
