Hit on Marton a “flawless execution,” long-range shot possibly by a sniper

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The killer or killers of businessman Mariano Antonio “Marton” Cui III “flawlessly executed” a hit on the Capitol consultant on hospital affairs who was shot and later died Monday night.

As the Special Investigation Task Group formed by the provincial police chief starts to piece together events surrounding the murder, details are starting to emerge.

Lieutenant Abegail Donasco, provincial police information officer, told DNX the SILG has gathered the following so far:

  • Cui had two gunshot wounds, one below his neck, the other on his chest.

San Carlos deputy police chief Lt. Ruby Aureta, on the other and, said the wounds indicate he was facing in the general direction of the shooter.

  • Footage from the closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) showed two “suspicious” vans, a white Totota and a silver Starex that were parked in the area surrounding the Emerald Building where Cui was shot as he was about to board his car.

The building is along FC Ledesma Avenue, a busy major road in San Carlos surrounded by commercial centers.

  • No person was seen getting out of the vans based on the footages.

Donasco added there are indications Cui was shot by long-range shooters, “possibly a sniper.”

She said they have yet to know based on forensic examinations the trajectory of the shots that could indicate the location of the shooter – whether above or levelled with Cui when he was shot.

“We are still investigating, as of now there is no suspect, there is no motive,” Donasco said.
