BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Two city dads are eyeing a possible charge for usurpation of authority against City Treasurer Giovanni Balalilhe if he refuses to impose an ordinance granting condonations to delinquent taxpayers here.
Councilor Dindo Ramos, principal author of Ordinance No. 936, told DNX he and Councilor Al Victor Espino who co-authored the measure, are waiting for the action to be taken by Mayor Evelio Leonardia before they decide to take the next step to take.
Ramos pointed out the measure, which was passed on 25 August 2020, went through the required hearings, including one attended by Balalilhe and City Legal Officer Joselito Bayatan.
Both did not pose objections, however.
The ordinance grants the condonation of penalties to delinquent real property taxpayers.
“We expect it to increase our revenues,” Ramos said.
