It is done!
The Carlos Hilado Memorial State College (CHMSC) is now officially Carlos Hilado State University, as the Commission on Higher Education approves the conversion of the college.
The conversion is mainly thanks to the House Bill 8732 filed by Bacolod Cong. Greg Gasataya who filed the bill to convert CHMSC, with a main campus in Talisay City and satellite campuses in Bacolod City and Binalbagan town, into a state university.
The Senate counterpart was filed last January 2019.
The conversion would mean that the university now enjoys academic freedom and institutional autonomy. CHMSU will also be able to establish more facilities and offer additional academic programs.
The co-authors of the House Bill 8732 were then third district Cong. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez and former Fifth District Cong. Alejandro Mirasol.
