BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Bacolod City is still among the top “Centers of Excellence” for IT-BPO (information technology – business process outsourcing) along with other five key cities, recognized by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) during the virtual launch of Digital Cities 2025 Tuesday, 30 June, a press release from Bacolod City Hall said.

Bacolod first achieved this distinction way back in 2013 during the incumbency of Mayor Evelio Leonardia when only three areas then were cited, along with Metro Manila and Metro Clark, the press release added.

This time, also listed were Metro Manila, Metro Cebu, Metro Clark, Davao City, and Iloilo City.

Meanwhile, the cities of Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Dasmariñas, Dumaguete, Lipa, Naga, and Sta. Rosa were named as “Next Wave Cities.”

“This is a revalidation of our status as one of the premier investment destinations in the country. In this highly competitive field, it takes a strong combination of available quality human resource and infrastructure to stay on top and we still made it,” Leonardia said.

“This and many other attributes of Bacolod should tell us that it will only be a matter of time when this crisis is tackled that we will rise again,” the mayor added.

Rey Untal, president and CEO of the IT & Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP), explained that they recognized locations that have been crucial to the continued and growing relevance of the Philippines as a global investment destination.

“The goal was really to drive inclusive growth in the countryside by selecting high potential areas throughout the country and transforming them into bustling IT and Business Process Management or IT-BPM hubs,” he added.

The virtual event was conducted through Facebook Live, and joined by DICT secretary Gregorio Honasan II, Digital Philippines assistant secretary Emmanuel Rey Caintic, and Leechiu Property Consultants co-founder and CEO David Leechiu, who is also a trustee of IBPAP.*/CITY PIO
