Eight days before President Rodrigo Duterte steps down as head of state in the Philippines, more than 336 out of 600 barangays have been cleared from illegal drug activities in Negros Occidental with millions worth of drugs confiscated by authorities these last few months.
More than 25,000 barangays in the whole country have been cleared during the last six years of Duterte’s term, with the anti-drug campaign being his main advocacy according to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office Spokesperson Police Lieutenant Abegael Donasco stated their Provincial Validation Drug Clearing Operations are currently suspended which will continue in July, and respective Local Government Units (LGU) are currently initiating drug a series or buybust operations.
Donasco also said that the police strives to end the use and the sale of drugs in Negros Occidental despite the transition of leadership in the province and its respective cities and towns.
