Two towns, two clashes, one day, four rebels killed

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Government troopers and suspected Communist rebels clashed anew in two separate encounters here in Negros Occidental, killing four suspected members of the New People’s Army.

The latest clash happened in Calatrava, a town around 80 kilometers north of here as soldiers of the 76th Infantry Battalion clashed with suspected New People’s Army rebels at around noon today, 6 July 2022.

The military were tipped off by residents in the area.

Meanwhile, four suspected rebels — three men and a woman — were killed in a separate earlier clash against government troopers in Binalbagan, in the subvillage of Amelis, village of Santol.

This time, the rebels clashed against members of the 94th Infantry Battalion who responded to a tip given by residents about presence of rebels in the area.

The Binalbagan clash also yielded among others some high powered weapons and a gun.

The rebels were involved in the ambush of PNP Binalbagan sometime February this year according to the press release of the 303rd Infantry Brigade.

No casualties were recorded on the government’s side.

Meanwhile, 303rd IB commander, Brigadier General Inocencio Pasaporte lauded the quick response of the troops in helping the locals of Binalbagan against the rebels.

He assured that the military are in control of the situation and are keen on crushing the insurgents in their areas.
