BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The scheduled two-day transport strike here was called off by organizers after two solons based here brokered a dialog between drivers and government that is hoped to address issues raised by public transport amid rising fuel prices.

Abang Lingkod partylist Representative Stephen Paduano said leaders of the organizations who joined the two-day strike agreed to call it off after he met with them afternoon today, 21 March 2022.

Earlier today, Paduano and Lone District solon Greg Gasataya presented to the House committee on transportation’s hearing the concerns of drivers who have been claiming that they are losing a low of P300 in daily earnings since fuel pump prices started to climb.

However, Diego Malacad of the Pinagkaisang Samahan ng Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (PISTON)-Negros, one of the four organizations that joined the strike, told DNX they will continue to man the strike lines until they are satisfied with the outcome of the dialog tomorrow.

Gasataya said LTFRB chairman Martin Deldra had instructed Osmena to dialog with the drivers tomorrow to represent hum.

“He wanted to come to Bacolod but scheduling conflicts prevented him from doing so, so he is sending Osmena instead,” Gasataya said about his talk with Deldra.

The solon added among the concerns raised by the drivers was the release of the Pantawid Pasada subsidy program for drivers worth P6,000 each.

To Paduano, the strike has achieved its purpose, the drivers have caught the attention of government, he said.
