BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The University Student Government has called on the public to respect frontliners in its official statement furnished to DNX.
The USG, in its statement, recounted how the frontliners have been experiencing stigma and discrimination simply because they are working on the frontlines.
Reports have seen them being refused transportation, with one frontliner in Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat being doused with bleach by a mob.
The statement said the stigma faced by frontliners might cost the frontliners “their mental and emotional health”.
“…[C]ompelled by Lasallian values, we strongly encourage everyone to show respect and senstiivity at all times towards our frontliners from every field of work,” the statement added.
They further encouraged the public to show frontliners “encouragement, love, care, and compassion” as they go about their daily duties and exposing themselves daily to the virus.
