BACOLOD CITY – The chairperson of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) here slammed the approach of broadcaster Ben Tulfo during his interview with Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia over the alleged Masskara-related basketball event.

“Tulfo’s lack of ethics and respect to news sources is a disgrace to the profession – shame on him for calling himself a journalist,” Marchel Espina said.

Espina said Tulfo’s “outburst, sense of entitlement and combative approach are plain repugnant”.

She added Tulfo has no right to “publicly taunt a news source”.

“At times, when news sources become a huge disappointment, real journalists have to keep their composure and finesse to maintain the highest standard of reportage,” Espina said.

The NUJP- Bacolod chair reminded Tulfo to practice real journalism by being “diligent in getting all sides of the story and providing proper context to the situation”.

“Real journalists seek out the truth — they are not the Messiah of the oppressed,” she added.
