Non-wearers of face shields to be fined, or render community service

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Non-compliant residents of this city will soon be penalized with eight-hour community service or with a fine of P200 while non-residents will be fined P300 for violating an ordinance requiring the use of face shields.

City Ordinance (CO) 926, also known as the “Face Mask and Social Distancing Ordinance of Bacolod City” has been amended to include the mandatory use of face shields in public places. (READ also: How to wear surgical mask: Blue or white side out?)

Councilor Archie Baribar, author of the proposal, said the Committee Report for the amended ordinance was approved and submitted for second reading.

Baribar said that aside from face masks, face shields should be used mandatorily while in public places, public transportation or vehicle, and all enclosed offices and establishments doing business and services.

A citation ticket will be issued to violators who will not comply with the ordinance and to those who will not observe social distancing.

The councilor said that there will be an initial appropriation of P200,000 for the printing of the citation tickets and for other administrative expenses.

He added that a task force will be formed to help in the implementation, enforcement and monitoring of the mandatory use of face mask, face shield, and social distancing.
