BACOLOD CITY – The province of Negros Occidental is placed on “blue alert” status as Typhoon Kammuri nears the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
Provincial Disaster Management Program head Zeaphard Caelian said Governor Eugenio “Bong” Lacson yesterday evening declared “blue alert” status to prompt local chief executives to prepare for the upcoming typhoon.
Caelian said the province may experience scattered rain showers with thunderstorm if the typhoon hits the country.
As of 11:00 AM, today, the typhoon slightly slowed down at its current location 1,220 km east of Southern Luzon with 150 kilometers per hour maximum sustained winds and up to 185 kilometers per hour of gustiness.
Caelian reminded the public not to be complacent but to pray, actively prepare and monitor updates for the upcoming typhoon.
As of press time, no storm signal is declared over the province.
