LA CARLOTA CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Former national table tennis team member and current La Carlota City Table Tennis program head, Stephen Andrew Timson, successfully headed the Sangguniang Kabataan Barangay III Población Invitational Table Tennis Tournament held from November 18 to 20, 2022 in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.
The tournament featured a total of 7 events, including the 15 and Under Girls Singles, 15 and Under Boys Singles, 18 and Under Girls Singles, 18 and Under Boys Singles, 45 up Executive Event, Women’s Open Singles, and Men’s Open Singles.
Over 200 participants representing 17 teams from 10 cities in Negros Island and Panay area participated in the tournament.
Among the participating teams were Iloilo Table Top Spinners Association, Iloilo Baptist Student Center, CPU Table Tennis Team, Antique Table Tennis Team, Cadiz City, Attack Kabankalan, Binalbagan Table Tennis Club, La Castellana, Silay Table Tennis Team, VMA Table Tennis Team, USLS Team, UNO-R Team, NOHS Bacolod Team, Legends Bacolod Team, Altruist Bacolod Team, Bacolod City Team, and Mangkas Spinners Table Tennis Team.
Timson expressed his optimism that the tournament would help promote the development of the sport in the region, saying, “This tournament will help promote not only La Carlota City table tennis players but the entire table tennis players to the entire region.”
He also noted that such tournaments are an excellent way to foster healthy competition among young talents and provide them with opportunities to showcase their skills.
The Sangguniang Kabataan Barangay III Poblacion organized the event, with support from the local government officials. Timson expressed his gratitude to the organizers and sponsors, including La Carlota City Mayor Rex Jalando-on, Brgy. 3 Captain Annabelle Bermudo, SK Chairman Juddson Kieth Caballero, Mr. Francis Roberto Jalando-on Jr., and Mangkas Spinners Team manager.
As part of La Carlota City’s commitment to sports development, the Sangguniang Kabataan Barangay II and Mangkas Spinners will be hosting another table tennis tournament on December 3-4, 2022, providing yet another avenue for players to showcase their skills and represent their respective teams.
