First Filipina athletic scholar in West Point is women tennis team Rookie of the Year

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Filipina Justine Dondonay bagged the Rookie of the Year award for tennis at the West Point Military Academy in the United States a year after she was admitted on an athletic scholarship in the prestigious military training institute.

The latest achievement of Dondonay was announced by her father, Enrique, on a post on his social media profile.

Enrique is a nurse in the United States who graduated secondary school at the then La Salle-Bacolod.

He told DNX the coaching staff of the West Point tennis team picked Justine from among five freshman candidates.

Justin is the first Filipina athletic scholar admitted to West Point in recent years.
