BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – “Malipayon” is happy in the Hiligaynon language.
It is also the name of a sub-village in the downtown area here that was hit by a fire this morning in Village 12.
At least 10 houses, possibly 15, were razed in a fire that was reported to the local fire station around 9:34am by the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office, Fire Chief Insp. Rodel Legaspi told DNX.
Fanned by the northeast wind, the blaze spread quickly from the house of Rudy Agravante to neighboring houses along San Juan Street.
The area is located at the back of the famous Manokan Country chicken barbecue stalls at the Reclamation Area.
Legaspi said it took more than an hour to contain the blaze that could have been set off by “children playing” inside the house of Agravante who was also renting space to some boarders.
He did not elaborate as the arson investigator was still conducting his probe as this story goes to print.
