BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The 43rd mayor of this highly-urbanized city of more than half a million people reports today, 5 July 2023, on his achievements anchored on his call for change since he was swept to power in last year’s polls amid criticisms over his travels abroad.
Billionaire businessman Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez, however, is expected to flesh out in his address on the state of the city the status of his projects, mostly anchored on good governance, accountability, and the delivery of social services as a conclusion to his initial report during a presser with local reporters early this week.
“Walang politika, walang personalan, trabaho lang (No politics, nothing personal, just work),” were the key phrases of Benitez during his inaugural address 1 July 2022 when he assumed office at the Bacolod City Government Center after a hotly-contested polls considered a battle royale pitting him and six-term and then longest-serving Mayor Evelio R Leonardia.
Benitez had promised in his inaugural speech that he will govern with impartiality and with no “no color coding” as he outlines what he calls as his dreams for the city, envisioning a super city that is green, smart, and digitized.
