BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines — Mayor Evelio Leonardia has appealed to the public to follow health protocols during the holiday celebration amid fears that coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases might increase due to gatherings.
“People are in the mood for celebrating so we keep on advising them to be reminded that Covid is still there and this Christmas spirit which makes us merrier than usual can give us a false sense of security,” said Leonardia.
Leonardia told DNX the gatherings, if there are any, should be limited to immediate family only.
He added that the best gift to give this Christmas is to observe minimum health protocols such as handwashing, wearing of face masks, and social distancing.
Latest record from the City Health Office showed 1 new case, 15 recoveries and no death.
As of 8 December, the city recorded total number of active cases 200, recovered cases 5,100, deaths 168 and confirmed cases 5, 468.
