BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The police chief of Guihulngan City was killed and the Oriental Negros provincial director and two other motorists were wounded when a dump truck that lost its brakes plowed the motorcycles they were riding along the national highway in San Carlos, 83 kilometers north of here.
The San Carlos Police identified the victims as Germano Mallari, 52, Ruben Berbo, 44,Rtchie De Jesus, 33, and Edwardo Aceñas, 38.
Oriental Negros media outlets, however, identified Berbo, whom they spelled as Verbo, to be a police lieutenant colonel and will be the incoming police chief of Guihulngan.
Mallari, they also reported, is a colonel who heads the Oriental Negros Police Office.
The San Carlos report added the road crash happened on the Eco Tourism Highway along the sub-village of Buli, Rizal village.
The victims appear to be driving big bikes based on the photos.
The report said the dump truck, a Fuso Canter, was headed east on the highway, and hit the riders who were going uphill.
The truck “incurred mechanical malfunction of its break (sic) system that caused the said accident,” the report added.
