BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The Diocese of Bacolod has requested the city government to reduce the curfew hours in December to give way for the Simbang Gabi, as part of the Filipino tradition.

Bacolod Bishop Patricio Buzon, in a letter to City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, has requested the adjustment of the curfew hours from 10pm to 3am so churches can accommodate the faithful for the early morning masses.

Currently, the city is implementing daily curfew hours from 10pm to 4am.

In his proposal, Buzon said they can adjust the early morning masses to 3:30am and 5am.

“In these difficult times, the people need more than ever, the Christmas spirit and the Yuletide cheer,” Buzon added.

Meanwhile, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran has expressed his support to the proposal of the Diocese of Bacolod.

Familiaran said he agrees with the said proposal for as long as the diocese will follow the minimum health protocols such as the wearing of face masks and face shields as well as social distancing.

The vice mayor added the request may be granted since the city is expected to be under a less restrictive modified general community quarantine by next month.
