SK fed rep worries about youth mental health

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation of Bacolod seeks to provide psychosocial and psychological support to youth in this time of pandemic.

SK Federation President Ayesha Villaflor told DNX they are working together with the office of Congressman Greg Gasataya to organize mental health programs for youth experiencing depression in these trying times.

Villaflor said they are already looking for partners and organizations that can help them provide mental health programs.

The SK federation president said the most common problem of the youth today is the shift of the mode of learning from face-to-face to online or modular, as part of the “new normal”.

She added most in isolation have also expressed concerns about their mental health.

“In terms of isolation, since we have curfew, some of our youth have expressed their concerns on that matter. It has been a problem of our youth because they feel the anxiousness and depression,” Villaflor said.

In Executive Order No. 70 issued by City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, any person below 15 years old will be required to remain in their residences at all times, except when obtaining essential goods and services or going to work in permitted industries and offices.
