BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Lawyer-administrator Rayfrando Diaz said he is hoping for the best but remains cautious a day after at least 200 tremors were felt from Kanlaon volcano since yesterday morning.
Diaz told DNX Capitol is now on guard as it continues to await for developments from the state monitoring agency Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
PHIVOLCS reported today 104 volcanic-tectonic earthquakes on the western side of the volcano over a 24-hour period.
One quake, recorded at 5:07am, was measured at Magnitude 3.0 and was felt in La Carlota City, Phivolcs said.
Magnitude is the measure of the strength of earthquakes (inbound for previous article).
Phivolcs had earlier reported that it had recorded 136 quakes over the previous 24-hour period.
Diaz said the activity of Mt. Kanlaon does not indicate yet an imminent eruption according to experts.
“We cannot give any specific instructions yet to LGUs because we have to rely on our experts and listen to what they have to say first,” he added. (READ: 136 quakes: Capitol to meet with PHIVOLCS on tremors on Kanlaon’s flanks)
