BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Provincial dad Valentino Miguel Alonso has voluntarily undergone a specimen swab for a RT-PCR test today and will quarantine himself after test results for a resident here came out positive for COVID infection.
“It is the right and responsible thing to do; I don’t want to endanger other people,” Alonso told DNX after he was sought for comment that the city’s Patient 18 was his former employee.
Alonso’s wife and several other people who might have had contact with the patient were also made to undergo confirmatory tests.
The young solon, one of two who represent the province’s sixth district, clarified Patient 18 had never been under his regular pay and is not a Capitol employee.
He said the 32-year-old man, who rents a room in Bata village here, traces his roots to Cadiz City and has relations with people in Ma-ao village in the neighboring city of Bago.
Alonso added the man used to run errands or do odd jobs for him.
Since the pandemic started, Alonso said he had been driving himself.
Patient 18 called him early this month, asking if he can work for him again but Alonso said someone had already informed him earlier that the man had flu.
“We had no personal contact; we talked only by phone,” Alonso said, as he added that he advised Patient 18 to undergo a test on 5 June at the provincial testing facility at the Teresita Jalandoni Hospital in Silay City.
“I will not risk the life of anyone, be they my family or my constituents,” Alonso said.
