BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines — “I admire Iloilo City. In fact, idol ko gid si Mayor Jerry Treñas.”
Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez heaped high praises on Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas saying that he looks up to his Ilonggo counterpart as mentor and “yardstick of leadership and initiative”.
The Bacolod mayor was reacting to Treñas statement questioning claims that Bacolod had surpassed Iloilo
Dugay na kami migohay and I look up to him as a mentor and a yardstick of leadership and initiative.
“Ginbasa ko ang speech ni Mayor Albee sa Masskara. Ari diri sa akon nga viber, kaduha ya gid na-mention ang Iloilo. Siling ya nalab-ot na nila kag nasobrahan na nila ang Iloilo. They have already surpassed Iloilo. Ambot kon diiin ya na nakit-an nga putos? Basi sa putos sang ibos,” Treñas was quoted by local media as saying.
Treñas also added that while Iloilo is ahead of Bacolod in a lot of ways, Bacolod is at least ahead when it comes to renewable energy, specifically wind energy.
“Hanginon (windy)” is a colloquial term for boastful, implying that the certain people in Bacolod are full of air to make such a claim.
Benitez however clarified that he has nothing but admiration for Treñas.
As for the winds in Bacolod, it the winds of progress
“Ang hangin sa Bacolod makusog nga nagadapya pakadto sa mainuswagon nga ekonomiya,” he said as he cited the recently concluded MassKara Festival that drew in visitors and helped boost the local economy.
