As part of the celebration of the 21st Charter Anniversary of Sipalay City, the Barongoy Fishtival – Grill for a Cause has officially opened March 21, 2022.
During the previous festival, organizers line up grillers and tables covered in banana leaves topped with rice along the poblacion beach. Free “barongoy” or flying fish will then be given to the community to grill and eat together.
However, due to the pandemic, organizers have changed the setup. A fisherfolk organization has been selected by the city and given enough funds to operate the event. Part of the profit will be directed to help those affected by Typhoon Odette and to repair the equipment of the organization damaged by the typhoon.
The grill for a cause is located at Pana-on, Brgy. 2, and is open from 4:30 pm to 10:00 pm. With as little as P200, visitors can enjoy a kilo of fresh barongoy for grilling partnered with 4 cups of rice. Added with the beautiful scenery of the sea and the poblacion beach will surely delight the eyes and palate of visitors.
