BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Twenty-six local government units in Negros Occidental including Bacolod have declared suspension of classes in all levels due to heavy rains, while the provincial disaster and risk reduction management office reported a landslide in an upland village in Sagay, and in Talisay.
Bacolod City Hall, through its Public Information Office, said in its advisory that classes were suspended “due to incessant rainfall.”
This was after Negros Occidental was placed under Yellow Rainfall Warning at 5 am and under Orange Rainfall Warning at 8 am.
The LGUs are Bacolod, Bago, Binalbagan, Calatrava, Cauayan, Ilog, Isabela, Moises Padilla, Murcia, Sagay, Cadiz, La Carlota, Silay City, EB Magalona, Manapla, Hinigaran, Escalante, San Carlos, Valladolid, Himamaylan, Victorias, Pontevedra, Pulupandan, Kabankalan, Don Salvador Benedicto, and San Enrique.
Provincial disaster chief Zeaphard Gerhart Caelian also confirmed receiving news of flooding and landslide in barangay (village) Paraiso in Sagay because of the heavy rains, as well as another landslide in Talisay.
Caelian said they are still waiting for official reports on both landslides.
