Two girls, both aged three, die one after the other as new weeks starts amid tiempo muerto

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Two girls, both aged three, die one after the other here as the summer heat soars and as the tiempo muerto deepens in Sugarlandia.

The charred remains of Gela Itchon, were found in the morning of Monday, 17 April 2023, along with her mother, Mengel, as firefighters walked among the remains of their house in Bayanihan, a crowded community in Taculing village where a fire razed through a residential compound around 8:47am.

The fire destroyed five houses, damaged one and left seven families homeless.

Today, 18 April 2023, another child, also three, died in the morning after truck driver Jemmy Panes rushed to beat red light and crashed into a motorcycle on which the girl and her parents were riding.

Police Station 4 chief, Captain Greeky Cayao, told DNX Venice Niem, the child, was with her mom, Shiela, and father, Jude Areglo, who dtove the motorcycle.

The parents suffered minor injuries and are now being treated in a government hospital.

Cayao said they are still waiting for the parents if they will decide to pursue a case against Panes who could face a possible charge for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and physical injuries.
