BACOLOD CITY – The historic Fifth Tour of the Fireflies kicks off tomorrow from the zero kilometer mark here and ends 78 kilometers later at the southern city of Himamaylan.
The critical mass ride for clean air, road sharing and road safety will take around 4,000 bikers through six towns and three cities — the longest route so far in the local history of the Tour.
Olive Seruello, information officer of the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) told DNX the Tour started five years ago as an event of an environmental NGO.
The provincial government adopted it, however and for this year, has become part of the PEMO’s activities for Wildlife Month.
The four previous Tours were:
1st: Bacolod to Manapla, 44 kilometers, 800 bikers
2nd: Bacolod to Cadiz, 60 kilometers, 2,000 bikers
3rd: Bacolod to Hinigaran, 53 kilometers, 3,000 bikers
4th: Bacolod to Bago, 32 kilometers, 3,500 bikers
Seruello said Himamaylan Mayor Raymund Tongson has prepared some surprises for the participants this year.
