BACOLOD CITY – Three fire incidents hit the city today, only days after six people were killed here in a downtown pension house blaze.
Around noontime, Jessica Logronio’s house in the sub-village of Bayabasan, Brgy. Bata was gutted by fire while she was cooking laswa (vegetable soup) in another house.
The incident took place beside a gasoline station.
Not long after the Bata incident, firemen received another call from a resident in Banago village informing them about a fire in the sub-village of Kawayanan.
When responders arrived, however, residents had already put out the fire.
The first fire call today, around 8am, was received from STI-West Negros University coming from the second floor of the School of Basic Education.
Local fire marshal, Chief Insp. Publio Ploteña told DNX the fire could have started from the stockroom of the school as witnesses reported seeing smoke coming out of its ceiling.
In the Bata case, Ploteña said there are suspicions that the house could have been set on fire by a deranged man or a drug addict, an angle they have yet to confirm.
At Banago, children playing with fire started the blaze that was fortunately put out by the residents themselves.
