BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Three cities and seven towns in Negros Occidental have suspended classes due to heavy rains brought by Supertyphoon Betty, and the southwest monsoon.

Classes are suspended today 31 May 2023 in the cities of Bacolod, Talisay, Silay and towns of La Castellana, Hinigaran, EB Magalona, Don Salvador Benedicto, Pontevedra and Hinobaan due to heavy rains brought by Habagat early this morning.

Classes are suspended in all levels except for Talisay that only cancelled classes from Elementary to Senior High levels.

Meanwhile, Victorias Mayor Javi Benitez announced in his Facebook page that 21 of 28 schools in his city “have transitioned to off-site learning modalities”.

Meanwhile, Acting Mayor El Cid Familiaran said there are guidelines to follow before calling for suspension of classes, thus the delay in the declaration.

Since there is no typhoon signal, there was a need to consult with the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council of the city.
