Thousands evacuated in Bacolod City due to Typhoon Odette

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Around 1,220 families or close to 5,000 persons in Bacolod city were evacuated due to Typhoon Odette, according to City Disaster Risk Reduction Management officer, Anna Maria Laarni Pornan.

Pornan said that majority of the evacuated residents had preferred to stay on the sites while their houses remain unfixed and electric power unrestored.

The city government has also extended cash assistance to the evacuees through the Department of Social Services and Development.

Pornan added that monitoring and clearing operations are now being done on streets and other severely obstructed areas of the city.
