BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Quarantined residents here will get free WiFi internet in quarantine centers to be provided by the city government in various quarantine centers here.
“They also need to be entertained,” lawyer-councilor Renecito Novero told DNX as he reiterated that the city is ready for repatriated residents from abroad who will be arriving here, starting tonight with 27 workers.
Like a sign of the changing times, Internet connection is now one of the amenities the government will provide in the quarantine facilities, unlike in the past when government provides only bare necessities in evacuation centers.
It has been noted that people who stay at home resort to the Internet to while away time, like watching movies, online games or TikTok.
Novero, who was appointed by Mayor Evelio Leonardia to head the Quarantine Centers Action Team, said the quarantine facilities for OFWs will be jointly run with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.
OWWA will subsidize the food, hygiene kits and vitamins other needs of the quarantined residents while City Hall will take charge in preparing the facilities and in providing security.
