City council passes P2.6 billion 2021 budget

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Councilors here unanimously passed the P2.6 billion 2021 budget amid questions and doubts raised on social media.

The budget, previously called by Councilor Cindy Tan-Rojas as a spending plan centered around the response to the COVID pandemic, is mainly funded from the Internal Revenue Allotment at 50 percent or P1.53 million and through local sources at 41 percent or P1.06 million.

The budget proposal documents, furnished DNX by lone opposition Councilor Wilson Gamboa Jr, showed the budget breakdown as follows: 48 percent or P1. 25 billion going to maintenance and other operating expenses;

29 percent or P722 million to personal services; 12 percent or P306.6 million to the 20 percent development fund, and the rest to property, plant and equipment, and financial expenses.

The budget next year is down by P400 million of 13 percent lower compared to last year’s P3 billion allocation.

The per capita provision next year is P4,160 per Bacoleno, Mayor Evelio Leonardia said in his cover letter to the council in submitting the budget. nine percent or P222.7 million to other expenses.
