BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental – The families of two men killed separately in the upland village of Camindangan in Sipalay City are not interested in charging the Communist terrorist group as the police chief there said the supposed admission of the killing by the NPA could only be part of a propaganda ploy of the dying insurgent movement.
Lieutenant Colonel Fernando Somblingo Jr told DNX representatives of the families of Michael Jun Jabagat and Donie Bacoli have signed affidavits of non-interest that say they will not file charges against the NPA.
Somblingo added the families point to different motives for the slay of the two men.
Jabagat, president of Kagay, a sub-village in Camindangan, was shot by still unknown killers on 25 April 2024 while Bacoli, a fish vendor, was found dead with at least 14 gunshot wounds.
Somblingo said Jabagat, accused by the NPA as a military asset, could have been killed over a land conflict but Somblingo did not give details while that of Baculi said he could hsave been killed over business.
Sipalay, around four hours south of here, is one of the areas of the Sixth Congressional District once considered a hotbed of the Communist insurgency.
