PNP’s “Birada Semana” nets two most wanted persons, busts 20 alleged drug personalities, hauls seven guns

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – The local police’ intensified enforcement operations last week has led to the arrest of two most wanted persons, 20 alleged drug personalities, 34 suspected illegal gamblers, and a haul of seven firearms and thousands of pesos worth of suspected illegal drugs.

Local spokesman Lt. Col. Ariel Pico told DNX the week-long campaign, patterned after the “One Time Big Time” operations of the National Capital Region Police Office, was aimed at enforcing arrest warrants and special laws like the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, the Firearms Law, and anti- gambling measures, among others.

The summary of the 18-24 January 2021 operations furnished DNX by operations chief, Lt. Col. Lester Leada showed most of those arrested, 34 persons, were for alleged illegal gambling followed by drug busts, 20, and wanted persons at 10.

The “Birada Semana,” loosely translated as “Strike Week” in Hiligaynon, saw 14 police units taking part – from territorial precincts 1 to 10, the City Drug Enforcement Unit, the Traffic Management Unit, the Mobile Patrol Group, and the Bacolod City Mobile Force Company.

These units conducted separate operations that totalled to 100 with Police Station 3 having the most operations at 11 followed by Stations 1, 2, 8 and 9 with 10 each.

The 12 anti drug operations led to 20 arrests while those for illegal gambling led to 34.
