Pain and gain: Balik Alindog after the holidays

Holiday gains? Nothing new.

The holidays have always been the best excuse for not going to the gym and for placing that diet plan on (a very long) pause.

That’s why, if you feel like you’ve gained a little, well, you are not alone.

After all the fun that the holidays brought, it’s time to be back on track.

John Romeo Jacobo, a fitness enthusiast for three years now, shared five exercises to lose those ‘holiday gains’.

One that he recommended doing is a high-intensity workout called Circuit Training using five exercises.

The workout when completed, he said, can burn from 300 to 340 calories.

These workouts do not need gym equipment.
Do this at home, at the gym, or even outdoor.
Simply prepare your towel and water, and you’re good to go.

Exercise 1: Squat Jumps

Exercise 2: Burpees

Exercise 3: Mountain Climbers

Exercise 4: High Knees

Exercise 5: Star Jumps

The training will have four cycles with 25 seconds of work, and five seconds rest in between exercises.

Jacobo suggested for starters to lengthen the time of rest from five seconds to 10 or 15 until the body is ready for a shorter rest time.

The shorter period of rest though, he said, is a better cardiovascular training.

Besides improving how he looks physically, Jacobo said that fitness has boosted his confidence and has made him more focused and goal oriented.

It has made him embrace the ‘work hard’ mindset better – something that he also carries with him in his career.

He started working out three years ago when he felt that he is getting overweight.

He tried running, ventured into swimming, and started going to the gym.

After seeing the results of being more physically active, he continued doing so and soon it became just like a habit.

Jacobo tells would-be “losers” — weight losers, that is: Always be clear (about your) goal. Whether it’s a couple of pounds or a back-in-shape plan to in time for that bikini bod (hello summer!), the key is being focused.

Focus is crucial in following the next step: consistency.

Consistency and patience along with the ‘work hard’ mindset are keys to fitness success.
